Description ~~~

According to Medieval Legend, during the Third Crusade, when King Richard's horse was injured and killed, his Muslim counterpart, Sultan Salah ad-Din, sent him a steed of equal strength and speed...

However, my version is a little different...

When King Richard's horse was injured and died, Saladin didn't send him a horse...

He sent him a dragon...

...

The morning was cool and clear as Sultan Salah ad-Din kept away in his tent, studying calmly after a fierce battle with the Kind of England. His two trusted Mameluke generals stood on the guard of his tent, trust something should go wrong.

Suddenly, a young messenger came dashing up the hillside and through the camp to the Sultan's tent. He burst through the cloth flaps and into the tent, startling the two generals, but the Sultan remained unmoved. The messenger fell to his knees, panting for breath.

"My Lord!... My Lord!..." he breathed.

"Out with it, boy!" one of the generals warned. "What news is it that you bring?"

Salah ad-Din raised his eyes from his studies as the messenger caught his breath and straightened up, still breathing heavily. He blinked.

"My Sultan..." he said quietly, giving a slight bow in respect. He grew excited again. "News has been brought from the Crusaders' camp! King Richard...his dragon...has died from wounds from the battle!"

Salah ad-Din looked up at this, astonished at the heavy defeat the Crusaders had suffered from his army. He stared frozen at the messenger, who grew outwardly uncomfortable.

"Do you know what this means? My Lord?" the young boy paused. "We have an advantage!"

The Sultan paused for a brief moment before turning to one of his generals.

"Tell my lieutenant to send for the strongest young dragon he can find," he ordered, "...and make sure it's red..."

I felt like writing something.

This is my little spin of the legend... There is also a story of how, when King Richard grew sick, Salah ad-Din sent the King his own doctor. ^^ Those two were looking out for each other, haha... But I find it quite amazing at how, even though lots of things happened, Salah ad-Din gave his own to let Richard keep his edge in the Crusade - like a game almost... What's the point in winning when you're level 100 and your opponent is level 30? XD

So Salah ad-Din sent for one of his own dragons - a strong, young, red Meastie - and gave it to Richard, who, though still mourning after the loss of his own late Westie, took the gift with utmost gratitude...

The young red was strong and energetic, and his youthful strength and fervor gave him an edge in combat. However, Salah ad-Din's Rahal was aged and experienced, taking an old knowledge of war with him into every battle...

Who do you think will win?

I promise I'll try to post more. ;-; I feel like it's been forever... Imma also try to get through all my messages - my inbox is absolutely crazy right now, and life isn't helping!
And yes, this was done in the idea of 'The Desert King,' featuring Salah ad-Din and Rahal: [link]

YAY FOR IMPROVEMENT.

Beautiful dynamic pose in this one, I love the silhouette against the sun, it has a lot of energy and symbolism of young verve! I think age and experience may win though, unless the young dragon gets lucky

Thanks! Yeah, I'd bet on the older dragon's wisdom than the younger's strength. ^^

To them it was a game, in a way. It was a battle of ideologies as much as it was a military campaign, so a lot of the interactions between Saladin and Richard have at least some philosophical connotations attached.
