it's basically the thing that catches the attention of the image.

it's usually the first thing you see.

so, if there was a giant elephant in a room, then the elephant would be "salient" because you'd notice it straight away


In artwork like a fight scene or something, sure perspective is important, but if you make a perspective that is a focus on one of the characters, you're subliminally picking favorites.

That's why i like this one, because both the characters have the same canvas space and it gives a mystery of who will win, instead of you deciding you value one character over the other
