Edit: I've had a lot of critiques about Robyn's face so I decided to update it. I am so much happier with this result.So I was watching some youtube videos of people who do mermaid shows professionally. (Some of the tails made for those costumes are AMAZING. How do they make those?) And there's guys who do it, too. And suddenly I wanted to draw mermen so bad. So this pic is the result. Cye from Ronin Warriors makes a perfectly hot merman. Also, I am totally digging this merman/human girl dynamic. This is so my new thing now.

Yeah, Robyn has Ariel's complexion, though that wasn't done on purpose. I love me some merman/human girl interactions.

Very well done. The water effects are beautiful and the Merman's tail is excellently angled and perfectly proportioned. (Always a hard part about drawing tails--getting them to look natural. I like his side scar/tattoo. Makes me think he had a run in with a shark sometime.
Did you know the Hawaiian word for shark is "Mako?" My sister and I used to play mermaids all the time, but we'd also invent merboys and mermen and tried to come up with appropriate sounding names. "Kale" "Fin" "Mako" "Urchin" and "Drift" were some of our favourites.
One small critique--I see that you've made the girl's eyes very large (similar to Disney style. There's a faint nod to Ariel here.) However, with such HUGE eyes you might want to set them a little further back so they can be more proportionate with her large forehead. I prefer Cye's natural shaped eyes.

I totally agree with you. Cye turned out way better than my OC Robyn. (Who has nothing to do with Ariel whatsoever. They just both happen to be redheads.) I always focus more on the bishounen when I'm drawing pairs. Gotta make the guys hot, gotta make them perfect and then the girls... meh. LOL Maybe I will go back and fix it. Her whole head could really use some help.

Robyn doesn't really look like Ariel. I think it's the combination of red hair and that particular shade of green in her bathing suit.
You draw guys wonderfully though. It's a nice contrast to where the girl is exquisite and the guy is meh--just supportive background.

This is so cool! The idea of Shin/Cye as a merman just makes me grin and want to draw the other Troopers/Ronins as mythical creature 'hybrids'. Aside from a bit awkward placing with the feet on the girl this is so good! I look forward to seeing more of your art, though the girl looks familiar for some reason I can't place. I feel like I may have seen your art before on an old account under a different name. Oh well, I'm here to enjoy good art!

I've been part of the RW fandom for YEARS--taking breaks on and off so probably thats why my art looks familiar.
You should totally draw some mythical creature ronins. Or just ronins in general. I will never say no to more ronin fanart.

OMG! I follow your tumblr blog by the same name! I think I also followed you way back but your devart had a different name then I think it was like 2010 or so. Either way I've found another great artist and I am prepared to get some RW/YST art to show we are not a 'dead' fandom! ^-^
