i use my mouse for selection and lining.. but mostly its free hand with a tablet

yup. trust me people have odd ways with small amounts of layers of large. i'm just curious how you went about doing it

I don't want to give my secret away but what the hell haha... it has to do with utilizing a few layers for base colours and using the smudge tool and black + white to get a million different shades.. then combining layers in a certain area and blending them together by smudging to.. all while sampling the area and dropping more colour to attain a perfect tone.. then i click and drag and add sading and highlights.. tada!
