*just randomly scrolling by* I agree with you. It helps being able to talk to someone who is a native speaker of the language you are trying to learn--you begin to figure out what does work and what doesn't, and so do they. I found attempting to speak to other French speakers on dA in their native tongue when I was learning helped me quite a bit...I am still way better at understanding French than I am speaking it, though.

The annoying for someone who speaks French against someone who speak s American : is that the French language is not international: therefore he can not be understood by everyone T_T
;_; so If you are american and bad in French, it's not as problematic as if you are french and bad in english... xD

It depends on what you deal with on a daily basis, really. Until recently, I was a ballet dancer (not professionally, just for fun) and almost all the terms in ballet are French. There are also a lot of French food terms, and my workplace has a lot of imported items. I feel awesome when I can hear terms and know what they mean or read the foreign labels all by myself. I can see your point, but I'm also one of those people who went into my foreign language classes in high school and actually wanted to learn the language being taught.

I better understand your point of view = P but someone who does not speak English nowadays is almost dangerous. The majority of product labels are written in English and no in german or french or chinese or an other language like swedish. And it's not that we want to learn the language, but we are forced to do so. The French language was international before but nowadays if all people of the world speak english : all others languages will be deads languages... XD it's not optimistic but i think the globalization will make destroy lot of things and not only languages. But in a world like that : anyone who don't want to comply of globalization is in troubles.
It's really good that people like you want to learn other languages but i'm sure that the majority of people who speak english aren't interest by learn other languages because wherever they are : they will be understood. I know that if it was the french language the international language : a lot of french people wouldn't want to learn an other language XD I hope you understand because i think i make lot of mistakes x)

Oh, I completely see your point, I'm just letting you know that your frustration isn't just your own...even if I'm not being forced. I think it's nice that one language has made it around the world, if other people learn it, then everyone can communicate somewhat effectively. It stinks that it's forced on you in school and you don't get the option to learn other languages, but I don't think other languages will become dead. Even in America, we still have families that speak both English and their native languages. I went to school with a girl who spoke perfect but heavily accented English at school and Japanese at home because her mother doesn't know English. Lots of Hispanic families are the same way, too.
Oh, most of us are few and far between. Most Americans are lazy and think they're all that. All but maybe three kids in my fourth year of French knew what was going on whenever the teacher spoke in French--at one point he asked a girl "Comment t'appelle tu?" or "comment vous s'appelle?" (I can't remember his phrasing, and this girl just looked around and asked what he had just asked her even though that is something we learn in our first year of French.
No, I understand you, your English is pretty good. Minor mistakes here and there, but even native English speakers make mistakes. I mistype and misspell stuff all the time.

English itself was originally based off of many other languages, so it's not like you're alone there. If a foreign word is created for something, it's simply easier to use that word than try to come up with a different word for it that sounds more like it belongs in your language. We have tons of French, Spanish, and other Latin-based words in the English language--so your language isn't the only one flooded with foreign words. It doesn't seem promising, but it is true.
That's been happening since...well, for as long as people and language has been around, really. It's just a fact of history, and there's not much we can do to change it.
Well, your translation was a bit fuzzy on why you felt the need to list a lot of points, so I'll try to respond to individual points. I think everyone feels silly speaking a language they're uncomfortable with. Whenever I type in French, I feel a bit silly because I know it's not my native language--there is a lot about it I don't understand, and I have a horrible time remembering proper sentence structure in certain instances. I don't want to seem like I'm a moron who does not know what I am typing, however I'd also rather get my point across and sound a bit silly rather than the person not understand me and misunderstand what I'm saying when they use something like Google Translate and the program translates my English incorrectly. It's sad to see any part of a culture go away, no matter what the culture is or why it went away (unless it was like, something really, really bad). I listen to music in a variety of different languages, though I think I'm more of a fan of Japanese than anything...and my favorite Japanese artist uses a bit of French in some of her songs as well, which I think is really cool. I like knowing the lyrics of all the songs I listen to, tough, even if most songs in English these days tend to be really shallow and it frustrates me--that's part of the reason I like foreign music...I manage to find a lot of it that's more meaningful than the stuff that's popular in America these days. I think for almost everythig else you're making pretty good points, though I'm sorry your game title has to be in English.
The event I was referring to took place over a year ago, and I haven't spoken French to anyone else in months, I don't know why that one stuck out in my head, though I was pretty sure the wording was wrong... He might have just looked at her and asked "Ton nom?" now that I think about it, but whatever it was, I distinctively remember turning around and telling her "He's asking you what your name is."
Ugh, I hate how I sound when I try to speak French conversationally. I can't make it sound right and I'm a stickler for proper pronunciation. I can get most single words pretty well, but when I try to say more than five or six words, I start sounding horrible.

Well, as someone who has learned the ins and outs of Google Translate, I know what it has a tendency to do to translations. I used to use it for rough translations of stuff we were reading books in French or when I was trying to write something and wasn't sure how to word a sentence or two. It can be helpful, but only if you kind of know the language you're translating into to begin with and can notice the errors Google Translate makes and correct them. Otherwise, you have probably and half and half chance of getting a proper translation... I became the master of finding the English version of French text we were reading in class and reading both versions at once to get a better understanding of what I was reading.
Lol, it all depends on the word for me. Some I get pretty well without being told how to pronounce, others I'm not too good with. Mostly I get annoyed because I'm horrible at making the soft sounds French is notorious for...I don't like sounding like an obvious and very obnoxious foreigner.
I get what you mean--a global language has it's good and bad sides, just like anything. You don't want languages and cultures to disappear, but ease of communication between most parts of the world is also really good, too.
You don't have to think of more things to say. XD
