Description I think New Orleans would be the perfect setting for a re-imagining of Romeo and Juliet.
Anyway, this piece is far from perfect and far from finished. I've been working on it off and on for so long, that I just had to officially set it down for a while.

If you like this little picture, I definitely suggest you check out this poem it inspired, by fellow deviant TakeoX

Hmm...I'd be surprised if some stage production DIDN'T do this somewhere along the line.

Damn, the colors! This is so smoky, like New Orleans itself. Makes me want to be back there.

I've been looking through your gallery and I love the look of your art. I very much like this one with the great detailing on the railings, the nice moody lighting, and unique colors. New Orleans definitely would be a good setting for a version of Romeo and Juliet.

Wow, nice one! Yes, I can see that fateful tale being transposed to a New Orleans setting quite well! I love the vibe you've got going on in this piece too, very moody and atmospheric - I can practically feel the humidity from here!

I could tell this was New Orleans before even reading the description xD Great picture! You really capture the atmosphere of the French Quarter ('s what this reminds me of anyway...could be wrong haha) and well...pretty much the whole picture is awesome.
I would love to see Romeo and Juliet set in New Orleans...

Love the halftone-style background, the colour choices, her tats, the swirl of her hair matching the swirl of the smoke... I could go on. This looks like it could make a great book cover. Brilliant work!

The cat is very sweet too :3

God i love everything about this work of art! the light lavender hair, the veve tattoo of Erzulie Freda, the subtle freckles , the warm twilight light, bring on more of the New Orleans Voodoo Magic baby!

I love your work, has this real creole , cafe au lait, Black magic vibe. It get's me so excited that somebody actually uses the Veve's in their art! I'am gonna have to write some poems about your work!

UlaFish In reply to TakeoX [2009-08-11 00:56:21 +0000 UTC]

I would love that! I'll definitely be doing a lot more work like this in the future. I'm hoping for my senior thesis to do a graphic novel re-imagining of a fairy tale or one of Shakespeare's works that takes place in old New Orleans.

TakeoX In reply to UlaFish [2009-08-11 01:03:36 +0000 UTC]

Ah, Shakespeare and fairy tales my favorite!, Orleans is just a great setting for anything mystical and magical! ... I'am really excited for the new Disney flick, the frog princess it's gonna take place in the big easy!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UlaFish In reply to TakeoX [2009-08-11 01:24:10 +0000 UTC]

I'm looking forward to that too! I'm a little bit bummed that my idea won't seem entirely original after that...but everything's been done anyway! I'm also happy that Disney is going back to traditional animation for a bit, they're just so good at it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TakeoX In reply to UlaFish [2009-08-11 01:34:55 +0000 UTC]

Originality are the small little details that make your ideals special, I mean ever story that comes out is basically an hash of different ancient archetypes...
Yeah, I've been praying that Frog Princess might start the second 2d animation revival that little mermaid started.
