Really Zack deserves more praise than what he gets. People don't understand that there is a narrative throughout the first five movies which tell the story of he birth of the idea of the superhero in a world that has forgotten what it is like to live among powerful beings.
That it's the evolution from the type of 'Dark Knight' semi Noir storytelling that had been DC's only type of profitable storytelling to the modern adventure serial storytelling that most other superheroes are playing out.

That's not really the reason people dislike his take on the DC superheroes. It's that he does not get the character of the superheroes he's supposed to be presenting. Really, the evolution from the darker tones of the first two movies is only his doing in that the following movies deliberately avoided being like those ones because of the harsh criticism Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice got.
