Gem is one of the flashier bettas in my betta swarm. I bought Gem as a female, from the pet store's female tank, and for months Gem lived in my sorority tank. Gem has since proven to be a "he", not a "she", and has been moved to his own tank.

This little fish is very active, darting all over his tank and fluffing at the pens next to it. In color, he's a reddish-purple with blue and red fins, and shiny blue scales along his back. His eyes are dark, red, I think, but it's hard to make out their color, and he won't hold still long enough for me to get a good look. The red markings on the top edge of his dorsal are new growth... he had a spat with the boss female and got a bite taken out of him, and the fin webbing grew back red. The tip of his ventral has also grown back nicely.
