Change is good - a society kept volatile will not stagnate and wither. On the other hand, the rate of change must be reasonable - if it outpaces people ability to adapt to it, society will be destabilized and thrown into turmoil.

As Gonzo says: Have a chicken to distract the audience in case you mess up the act.

And then there are those who because something is new, is therefore superior to what has come before it.

Well, that assumption isn't without supporting examples, even if it IS on the arrogant side. I know I'd choose penicillin over mercury treatments any day of the week.
Then again, assuming a break from tradition is automatically out of arrogance and disrespect is just as destructive as NOT respecting tradition at all, IMAO.

Just because something is new, does not make it better. Take a look at all the movie remakes that have bombed over the years.

...You DID see that I acknowledged that assumption wasn't always correct in my reply, right?
And it works both ways--just because something has been around for a long time, does NOT make it the "right" way.
Pasteurizing milk was lambasted as "meddling with nature".
The printing press was seen as cheapening the great art of writing.
Napeoleon supposedly dismissed steamship designers with, "Away with you, you visionists!"
Just playing devil's advocate here.

Looks like Apple Bloom has been hanging out with Despersion a lot lately. Her message about the status quo is so true.
