It's raining ash here, I like to think that Asa and his flock live in a much older Okanagan-ish region with just as many forest fires.

Since Asa's in his feral form, I also added in Huckleberry's rider, a forest spirit who has a strange control over stryx and as a result prefers massive dragon companions instead of deer or wolves, they're also not the nicest but they seem to like Asa just fine.
