I've seen a few molten lava creatures on DA recently but this one is easily the best yet, hands down.

This is awesomely done, pity it doesn't have hunters failing epically at taming the new creatures in the back ground lol.
Why blizz? Why did you have to make them hit like a train?

this brings a question to my mind i'd like to adress at you.
I have many pictures not finished because when i started them i sucked even more then i do currently at digital painting but with every image i learned something new that i wanted to use in the next image from the beginning.
Now i do not know if i should revist some of the old ones or try to improve even further and just forget them as lost causes.
Do you have pictures from your "rookie ages" you would like to revisit?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UnidColor In reply to Celarx [2011-06-13 00:23:12 +0000 UTC]

Thats a good question!,

I would say it depends, if the picture still makes you exited even after a very long time I think it might
be worth going back to finishing it, and for whatever reason you left it unfinished like having drawing issues or not have enough skills to bring your picture to a desired level.
When you come back to it you might be able to make a 180 degree turn around fixing and improving the picture.

But there is also alot of pictures that didnt turn out very good, I guess you could call them practice pieces, sketches or experiements, hopefully you took away some experience from them or learned something.
I usually dont stress to finish any of them but rather move on, unless like I said earlier, if its a good image but I couldn't finish it because not good enough or maybe got busy, or maybe even got bored of it at that time, than
I would consider go back to finish it.

And doing sketches and such for practice is a good idea, you dont have to finish them. finishing an image usually takes alot of time so its important to just start images beacause thats were alot of the imporant decisions happens so its good practicing it.

And as for finished paintings I have posted I usually dont go back and revisiting them if my skill goes up (like any of my older art I posted here on DA), as I would have to spend my entire life just doing that and I rather just doing a new image, but if
I post something recent and someone find misstakes or something that would improve it I ofcourse go back and fix it.

So yeh the answer for your first question, if you got an intressting unfinished painting on your harddrive you still would like to finish go for it. But if it was just a practice piece or
a painting that didnt turn out so good I would probably shoot for making new stuff.

The second question; some of my older art 2-3 years ago, most of it I have put past me I will most likely not revisit any of them, however more recent stuff like last year if I still like it than yes.

This is just my take on it, do what feels right thats the most important.
Hope it wasnt too confusing

You weren't confusing at all, and thank you very much that you took the time to go into great detail to answer my question

Looking forward to your next paintings, now I'm motivated to draw something now

I could learn so much from your edges. AND I WILL.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UnidColor In reply to isso09 [2011-06-15 20:10:24 +0000 UTC]

Thanks alot! yeh edges is a fun part of painting, and the best thing is you can apply them in the end of the painting if you so feel.
It just takes alot of time to do them, atleast when blending them in by just painting.
Also I think edges is some kind of thing that not everyone notice or possibly really cares about, but It does
play an role by making the painting feel better to look at.

UnidColor In reply to foe82377 [2011-06-15 19:56:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah its a creature from World of warcraft, so yeh its just a fanart.
They are releasing some patch with a lava theme including monsters like this guy, so I felt
like doing something fresh up and coming in the game.
The background lava and patterns, I tried to make them be very designed shapes like how they
would do in a disney movie, so yeh thats the inspiration
