It is one of the design made especially for Zeon's original planned attack on Jaburo. This thing would burrow in and pave the way for other to reach the base's interior.

It looks like one of those zany toy robot figurines you buy in a 5-pack assortment. This one's drillbot, but of course there's also punchbot, bazookabot, flyingbot, and swimbot. Nobody likes swimbot, so they always try to trade it away. But that doesn't work, because nobody likes siwmbot. And it's the most common bot in the series, so you wind up accumulating a bunch of swimbots in a shoebox until you get bored and remember your leftover M-80s from Independence Day.
