It was a hot day, and the light breeze did little more than stir the fully unfurled canvas sails. Aislin had already gone swimming with her bond dragon, and was now sunning herself as she dried, letting the moisture in her fur temper the oppressive heat as it evaporated. Cutter thought she had the right idea.
~All you need do is ask,~ came a mental nudge from Upzuup, his own (much larger) draconic bondmate. He had been in the water since early morning, chasing fish and just generally playing beneath the nearly mirror-calm surface of the sea.
Cutter snorted. ~Who needs to ask?~They wouldn't need any hands on deck for quite some time, it seemed, and no one was really in the mood to haul away, anyway. So he rose, stretched languidly, and then leapt over the railing into the cool water below.
Then Upzuup was there, poking his head out of the water to peer at his bond with an eye bigger than Cutter's whole head. ~Well, don't just float there,~ he said, ~lets go!~
Laughing, Cutter caught hold of Up's large horn and took a deep breath as both boy and dragon dove below the surface.
