Description
This was a set of tiles representing animals of the Chinese Zodiac that I did for this company that shall remain nameless, because they were very nice right up until I said "Look, I respect your deadline, but I can't give you the full size files until I get a contract."And then I never heard from them again.
Since this was...uh...four years ago, I'm gonna assume my statute of limitations has passed and offer 'em as prints. They'd probably make good icons too, so if you'd like to use them as icons, take them with my blessing. It's my way of sticking it to the man....

Personally, I prefer contracts up front. If they like my stuff, they like the sketches of the stuff I will eventually do for them, they better also be willing to fill out some legal stuff and put down a deposit before they see anything else from me.

yeah, thats why I wouldn't want to rely on freelance work...its too brutal in that respect.
I always stick to my commission rules; pay first, image later....no acceptions even if you are a company.
because someone that I actually knew tried to trick me into doing an ass load of free illustration work AND graphic design work for his new "company". Whenever I hear "I don't have the money now, but when I start making a profit, you will get royalties", I'm immediatly turned off.

That's just proof of how companies sometimes think they can get things for free just because you're an artist online (I don't know the circumstances you had). As if not meeting face to face somehow cancels your rights to an income...
