Description I haven't got a clue what it is, but I think it's actually what I was trying to do. And I kind of want to do more of them. (My attempt to describe it to a friend of mine came out as "It's a kind of...jackalope fetus saint thing with baby hands." She looked at me for a minute and then said "Well, you're not boring.")

The plant in its hand is a native of my area, Carolina lupine, also known as "Aaron's Rod." This fact has no bearing or significance on anything.
--------------------

12 x 16--the original's actually got a bit more of the textured white bits in it, but I cropped it down an inch or two here, just to keep the scanner happy. This is another of the very mixed media pieces--a digital underpainting, printed on illustration board and sealed to masonite, reworked with colored pencil and acrylic ink, and the background is a heavily textured surface achieved with gel medium and patches of ceramic stucco. The halo is gold leaf.

Original is for sale! Prints can be ordered directly from Red Wombat Studio at [link] and you can find more information about ordering the original there too.

Just wanted to let you know that after staring at this for several minutes yesterday, I had a dream last night that I had a new baby swaddled, and when I opened up the blanket this little creature was inside. Far from being upset, I was in love and just thought he was the cutest.

That is nice. I have no idea what it is, either, but it's beautifully done. Good choice of textures for the background, it works quite well with the figure.

Cute, and Disturbing!

.... I now have the urge to start figuring out DnD stats for it. Oooo! Or Shadowrun.... I'm getting the vibe of Mystic Adept from this thing... Uhm... Hi. This is me on no sleep and lotsa caffeine.

The only thing I'm disappointed about here is since you don't know what it is, there's no little story blurb.

It is extremely ugly cute. Which is a good thing. I think.

You know, with the title unsaint, I was expecting the description of this guy to refer to his demonic nature. And I suppose that wasn't your real intention, but there's something oddly demonic about him. Maybe the redder feet? I see him almost as a seedling of the antichrist for lack of a better name for it instead of a saint.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Valiant188 [2009-05-21 23:33:55 +0000 UTC]

I doubt this was your intention, but this maked me think of the antiChrist. The little baby thing looks like a baby Baphomet, which is the Devil or something. The head ring makes me imagine that a very young Pope was chosen, but it was an agent of evil.

I don't think it's an evil piece though! Just voicing my thoughts.

The thing about art like this is that I want to know exactly what went through your mind to inspire it. The problem with that is that thoughts like this rarely come in the form of coherent sentences.
The background texture is freakin' awesome.

Mmm, it looks like a crossbreed between a pygmy tapir, an albino salamander, a little bit of goat (or a faun) and ... a saint?

Very nice (and curious) character !

I'm not sure what the heck your artistic subconscious muse is trying to say, but it says it very beautifully You really do want to cradle it and coo and chuck it under the chin -- right before you convulsively snap it's unnatural neck. I'm in love!

Sooo... read the journal entry about Kevin freaking out over a painting in progress, and then later I saw this show up on my Devwatch... and didn't make the connection until I saw the LJ entry linking it. I dunno. It's not hitting the cute OR the freaky buttons for me. It's just interesting. I think it's technically beautiful, because my brain is focusing on the shading technique and whatnot. Called my girlfriend over, and she just said 'I like it!'
