"What Xemnas doesn't realize is that this is destined to fail..." muttered Vexen. He slouched and put his head in his hand.Slumpety-slouchety Vexen was hard to draw!! T^T
This isn't exactly how I wanted it to turn out. I wanted him to be looking at Xion from the side. But I can't draw Vexen's profile to save my life, so I guess I'll have to work on it.
Either way, the entire thing was inspired by ~AriannaTheKeybearer , to whom I dedicate this piece of... art.
Vexen + Xion are (c) Square Enix. They do not belong to me, although sometimes I chain Vexen to my bed. >D
Ah, also. I am not flagging this as 'mature' as I originally intended to for a few reasons:
-This is not an explicit deviation
-There is nothing explicitly or intentionally mature about this
-Xion is a puppet, not a human being. I don't view her as a person, but as a work of science, and so she will be classified as such (an experiment, not a naked woman).

And I actually imagined it after the whole Days crisis. I've heard a rumour about Xion being reborn, and that rumour [whether it's true or not, I don't give a crap] lit a teeny lightbulb in my head and I was like YES, THIS IS HOW IT'S GONNA GO!
But in essence, I suppose you are right. The new Xion, as she was being recreated, was a struggle.
Vex is a genius either way though.

Oh yeah!! At first I had him looking towards Xion, but I failed.
And I played it too, but in the end when Xion died... that was bad. Haha. And she tried to rebel against the Organization.
But in a future game, apparently she is going to be re-created.

This is a nicely-drawn picture. I kind of like the idea of Vexen obsessing over the creation of Xion and hitting that point in every project where all the frustration culminates and you hit the point where you go, "This isn't worth it. I should start from the beginning. It's a failure." etc (even if Vexen can't actually feel all that, he could easily delude himself that he can).
But I do caution you against having Vexen canonically consider Xion a failure, since that completely contradicts his character in-game. Whether or not he ever hit the low point described above, he clearly didn't think of Xion as a failure once it was completed. He actually called her his "finest creation." So, uh, maybe Vexen himself is a total failure at life and everything (commonly argued regardless) and "his finest creation" isn't saying much about him at all, but he thought highly of Xion regardless.
That doesn't really have anything to do with the picture or how nice it is, but your artist comment gave me food for thought and I had to give my two cents. Hope you don't mind.

Well, thanks for the long comment, heehee, I like having something to read.
When I drew this, I had in mind Xion's rebirth. I've heard rumours of Xion being 'reborn' or something [again, I dunno if it's true or not], but when I got the idea for this [as suggested during a RP that ~AriannaTheKeybearer and I were doing], I was like 'osnap, like yeah! when she's recreated!' Then I just pictured him sitting there, under Xemnas's orders, creating something he knew was destined to rebel again. I guess I was thinking more of rebellion than failure, but meh, whatevs.
And... Vexen's biggest fear is being a failure, though he's quite proud, so perhaps he doesn't realize all of the mistakes he makes. ^^
And... meh.... DDD< /I/ don't think she was his finest creation. DDD<
Oh, and also [this is sort of irrelevant, but] ... I'm sure he thought highly of Xion as a creation, not a member of the Organization.

Sure. See, that makes more sense to me than what I initially took it to be, so I guess it's a matter of context. Thanks for clarifying.
I think I'd still disagree on the matter of how he perceives Xion. In comparing her to the Riku Replica, he called RR "unfit for number status," which could mean one of two things; the most obvious conclusion is that RR might've been intended to be XV in the Organization, but wasn't up to par with Xion. The other (slightly crackier) theory is that RR wasn't fit to be no. ii (where Xion was no. i). If it's the former, then I'm pretty sure that Vexen would have been ecstatic that Xion was accepted into the Organization, since that only gave him more credibility in the eyes of his peers. Think of it as Dr. Frankenstein's colleagues accepting his monster as an actual human being and going HOLY FUCK, YOU JUST CREATED A PERSON. THAT'S GODLY. as opposed to 'oh jeezus you made a monster get it away.' Even if the latter theory turns out to be true, or it's something else entirely, it cannot be denied that Vexen thought highly of Xion, if not all of his creations.
Still, that's just trying to Vexen-think. Outside of his head, Xion's quality as an Organization member/doll/what have you is totally up for debate. Saix obviously saw her as a worthless waste of time, Roxas saw her as a good friend, Axel saw her as something that made Roxas happy (and thus was worth protecting), and so on. That's the magic of Xion -- everyone sees her differently, for better or worse. 
Sorry for turning this into an essay of sorts! I just like discussing this kind of stuff, hope you don't mind. Either way I appreciate your art so keep up the good work.

Oh ho, so Vexen DID realize that Xion was a failure!
In the roleplays my friend and I do, Vexen had no intention in creating Xion...In fact, she was the only creation that he despised with a very firey passion. He even asked Xemnas if he could kill her with Frozen Pride. XD;
Xion's a whiny little bitch in our roleplays...And she hates her creator. And everyone else. But Roxas. ( No offense if you like Xion. ^_^;; )
