I'm playing the game for myself and for youtube and enjoying every bit of it. For Nero, my favorite Devil Breakers are: Rag Time(za warudo), Tomboy, and Buster Arm(devil bringer arm not mega buster :3). V's pretty good, but he's hard to understand in terms of range and speed.

Nero became extra cool to me once I found it his dad was Vergil. I have the classic yamato katana in my room. XD
Dante was kinda downplayed when it came to his gunslinger form though, but his extra devil trigger is so fuckin cool. V's overall gameplay is pretty cool, but kinda hard for me to use.
V's tendency to read from a book reminded me of Genesis from FFVII.

Training with a wooden sword should work. Just make sure you sword isn't too heavy. Also, yes, reading is lovely.
