Description This is an exterior view of the abandoned Fisher Auto Body plant in Detroit.
Along with many other derelict factories in Detroit and elsewhere, it has become a symbol of the devastation suffered by the fate of the manufacturing sector in North America.

Very cool shot. I live about 2 hours North of Detroit near Lapeer. I've always wanted to cruise around Detroit and shoot pics of the decrepit factories, etc, but never got the courage.

I agree with you; the Fisher Body plant is emblematic of the problem facing the U.S. and the Rust Belt in particular. I suppose its been a long time coming...Pennsy tasted it back when the steel mills closed.
Unless America loses its taste for greed, it won't stop outsourcing jobs to foreign shores.

Thanks for sharing!

I was a little apprehensive about spending a few days in Detroit because I knew it used to be called Murder City USA but the central core is quite safe.
The eeriest thing about the place is the lack of people. I walked around with my camera for 3 days and hours could elapse before I saw another person walking around. I arrived on a Sunday and stayed at the Holiday Inn right downtown and I was stunned at the lack of cars and people. It didn't get much busier the next day.
The visit reminded me of an old Twilight Zone episode about a post-apocalyptic catastrophe. All the crumbling abandoned buildings in a once thriving metropolis is very sad sight to see.
Still there remains some spectacular Art Deco skyscrapers in pristine condition (because they're still in use) and The Detroit Institute of Art is first-class.
