Description Happy (about 3 months too late) 4th birthday to Tenebris!

EDIT: For consistency with the Sojourner sheet, I added Tenebris' "dark lord" precursor to the image.

The story of Tenebris doesn't begin with Tenebris themself, but rather with a boss from Dragon Quest named Overweening Pride (seen in my early artwork at deviantart.com/vectormoon/art/overweeningpride-796135127). At this point, my "villain" phase was in full swing, and so I decided to make my own take on the general idea proposed by OWP, which eventually became Tenebris. This "Tenebris" I believe to be loosely based on a previous generic "dark lord" character I had made during playing pretend with my brother.
This early iteration of Tenebris, seen on the left, actually has more in common with modern JW than with modern Tenebris, with the ambiguously-clothing-or-body-patterns and the color scheme. The only thing that's stayed relatively constant is the voice I imagine for Tenebris (a rough, low voice that always sounds angry at everything). This version of Tenebris also had a unique concept of 3 different "phases" or otherwise transformations, with this being phase 2, a more human-resembling form being phase 1, and a more ghostly glowing form being phase 3. It was probably just an excuse to have multiple designs for the same character, which shows with me having pretty much immediately ditched phase 1 entirely.

And then, around late 2019, DAZ entered the picture, and I began drawing from DAZ to make references for my artwork. This resulted in a general shift in Tenebris' appearance, which along with me beginning to play pretend with my brother in scenarios involving Tenebris, led to the 2nd version of Tenebris' design seen here. I shifted towards more of a "Princess Leia hologram" style of blue alongside the gradually blueing color scheme of Tenebris himself. The concept of the different phases became very vague. And all this is happening against the backdrop of my puberty - my 13th birthday was August 2020. Hence the rather... unusual clothing designs of the era for Tenebris (I even had a picture of Tenebris drawn by a literal NSFW artist at that point, khasdannyanlord , but that's story for another time.) Tenebris' 2nd design was by far the longest lasting, as I had relatively stabilized the design.

Until Minecraft entered the picture.
You see, Tenebris was not always Null! In fact, that identity appeared in late 2020, and was rather shoehorned in to fit Sojourner's backstory in my roleplay with my brother. The whole Minecraft thing came out of an era where I was connecting a lot of very strange things Game Theory Style (including, at one point, (HB) and Kris from Deltarune...!? I was insane back then) and one such connection I made was Sojourner and Entity 303. Thus, Tenebris was obviously Null in my mind.

The third design sorta... coexisted with the second design for a time, because I had made a Tenebris character in Robloxian Highschool that used that design. But around late 2021, I was getting back into Zisteau Plays Minecraft, and decided to do something with my characters regarding the 1.18 Update, which brought Sojourner's design much closer to the original Entity 303. As such, I decided to switch the RHS Tenebris design to be the main design, as that looked a lot closer to Null. And I was happy with that for a time. Until I wasn't.

You see, the nature of whatever altered the designs and personalities of Sojourner and Tenebris has changed and actually diminished over time. At first the event was tied into an Undertale AU's "glitch" mechanic (this was during the MatPat era, okay?)  which completely pretty much replaced the two characters. However, soon, I realized the ridiculousness of that, and slowly started changing and revising it, from glitch to corruption, and finally, to simply an identity reset, as I had built Sojourner's backstory more and primarily needed it as an excuse for Sojourner exiting his evil period. Thus, it began to affect Tenebris less and less, and it soon became obvious that Tenebris needed a new design yet again.

So here we are.
This is an announcement of Tenebris' new design, 100% faithful to the original Null, seen on the far right. And I thought I would end up revisiting this with the very first base I made any art for Tenebris in.
