Description

Oh yes, because I took four years of child development, psychology and behavioral and learning variable classes, so I could be a babysitter

I am a childhood educator, working with children aged 2-4, at a time when they are able to take in the most amount of knowledge.

When they are learning how to talk, how to interact socially, how to write, how to understand and follow words...they are learning how to function in this world.

These early years are what set them up for the rest of their lives! This is when they are learning the very basics of who they are!

I already get paid minimum wage, for a job that, if it didn't exist, the economy would literally stop.

So don't add insult to injury, and call me a freaking babysitter.

I feel your pain, I work with one year olds to three year olds and so many people just assume that all we do is play and not teach them anything due to their age. I was speaking with one of my parents about our lessons plans and they go "Oh! I was wondering where she learned all these shapes from!" Where the hell else would she learn her shapes from if not from her parents! Jeez, so many people don't realize just how much these children learn at such a young. Adding onto your list of things early childhood educators do, we also teach them how to count, what their shapes are, what their letters and numbers are. Let's not forget the parents that expect the 'daycare' to teach their children how to use the toilet. My classroom is one and a half to three years old, but the school I work in takes children from five weeks all the way up to five years old. Not just that, but we have before and after care for school age children. We have kindergartens that still aren't potty trained due to parents' laziness. So trust me, I completely and utterly understand your pain of being called a babysitter, and not considering you an educator.

It's so annoying when I get family members who are like
"oh so you...look after kids..."
It's like... yes...
But there is so much more to it than that!
