morning, rudely begun by beeping alarm,comes too fast
daylight too early
night too short
cannot believe I must rouse my self from bed
just want to hit snooze
curl back up into a ball
warmed by 6 hours of sleep
want to pull blanket closer to my chin
draw knees into my chest
snuggle deeper into my pillow
tantalized by dozing off
tempted by closing my eyes
thinking about sinking back into my dreams
my deliciously cozy cocoon of clean sheets and covers
it can’t just end
not ready to face the glaring light of the hallway, bathroom, kitchen
unprepared to be sociable, presentable, intellectual, educational
am I sick?
no
is it Saturday?
no
is it snowing?
of course not.
forced to surrender to Thursday morning
shower, breakfast, school bus
…but I wish I was asleep
