Description I was halfway through this when I scanned in 111, so the next one won't be for a while I think..

I'm not happy with the fine detail parts, I was being uninventive

I just love the shapes hee, the flower-like one matched with those white circles coming in a line, makes the picture hypnotic. I also like how those thick lines are blurred on the edges. It gives such 'soft' impression that that the picture feels cosy in some way. It's beautiful.

There's something so comforting about that flower of white, I love how you contrast all these smooth shapes and lines with the sharper little details.

yes it becomes the centrepiece in many of my designs.. I like how the individual "petals" form the flower so organically..

Definitely, and your simple shading does wonders at giving the piece depth.

I know what you mean, drawing and painting seems to be a luxury time often doesn't afford these days

I love it when you use thick, dark patches. But, you know this already

I love line work like this! What are you using?

Veganvictim In reply to EmilyStamp [2009-08-02 15:41:36 +0000 UTC]

It's just a 2B clicky pencil (automatic/mechanical, i never know what they're called) and a standard sketchpad..

Really? I used to love doing linear stuff like that, obviously not as good as yours, but its so relaxing. You have inspired me to try it again

Yeah a lot of people have and did, either at school or in meetings, doodling I guess you could call the original style.. but after 5 years of doing that I started to pay attention to what I was drawing and applied myself.

EmilyStamp In reply to Veganvictim [2009-08-02 15:58:36 +0000 UTC]

Well your work is far from "doodling". I took a 2D-Design class last semester for my degree and we did a lot of line work but with pen and india ink..it was my favorite class I have taken in college I think.

Veganvictim In reply to EmilyStamp [2009-08-02 16:00:43 +0000 UTC]

Well yeah it's evolved.. but the base, the root of it is doodling - though I get annoyed by people who classify it as such

I can't work with pen/ink, it's too unforgiving - though I appreciate the fluidity of it.

I draw everything on the train to and from work, so I need pencil and eraser
