I have discovered the Creature of the Week(C.O.W) forum over at Conceptart.org...A topic is given with certain guidelines and you get a week to create your creature! I hope to participate every week to brush up on my creayure design and Painter skills. This was my first go at it, the topic being Swamp Beast. I was going for a Creature from the Black Lagoon look...fun stuff! This was @ 4-5 hrs with Painter and photoshop.Related content

I love how angular the legs are. Plus, it's slimy and webbed... we need more swamp creatures!

Wow. Just wow. That is a beautiful swamp monster, I hope when they remake creature from the black lagoon the design is half as good as this.
Also I am just discovering COW, that is some fun stuff I might have to try my hand at it a bit.

Take all the art classes you can, go to art school, college etc...Learn the basics and traditional media...figure drawing, life drawing, fun drawing...perspective, form, color theory...get comfortable with using the computer, Photoshop, Painter...buy a Wacom tablet and practice, practice, practice!

A lot of people I know are entering that creature contest sometimes... there are a lot of wicked-assed monsters in there, man.. this is definatly one of them.
