edit: gorga pointed out to me fire is technically hotter at the bottom with white so take my tutorial with a grain of salt as the rest of my work

May I ask what kind of brushes you use or their set-up? I notice the first is a bit smudge like, but things get harder as it goes on.

I have my settings on about 70 density and it gets harder as I lower brush size and press harder xD
I used one brush for most of the process and for airbrush just a standard soft brush :3

When I do fire, I find that doing the lighter colors at the bottom, and then gradually darker as you go up looks most realistic. Fire is hottest at its source, and the hotter the fire, the brighter it is. From bottom to top of the flame: White to yellow to orange to red.
