Description
merely an attempt at creating a baby raptor hatching.i got 3rd place for this at an art show. in my eyes i failed.
used Mark "Crash" McCreery's raptor sketch as a reference.
NOTE: yes, i know that now palentologists believe veleciraptors had fur and such, but at the time i drew this, they didn't publish that theory. .:: nods ::.

This looks very influenced by concept art that Mark "Crash" McCreery did for Jurassic Park. I want to say that the head and neck are practically identical (aside from the color)! It's a nice painting, but the similarity bugs me, especially since you didn't mention if you used reference when you wrote the description.

hehe, watch out when you refresh people's memories. somtimes they will edit (like this one did) or call you mean for calling them a theif. then they go and frame you for true art 'theivery'.

I didn't call them a thief at all... but if a person makes a picture that blatantly rips from another artist and fails to give credit, then maybe that's what they are. I merely pointed out that the art was recognizable and they might want to think about that.
I have no problems with making civil comments to people, and I'm certainly not afraid of them taking it too personally or overdefensively (which does happen on occasion). It's not mean to call someone out (nicely) for not mentioning references-- it's mean to think you can get away with something like that and let other people think that you came up with it all by yourself. Credit needs to be given where it's due-- it's a matter of respect. Artists like Crash are the reason why such awesome dinosaur art exists-- both their own art, as well as the art they inspire others to create.

I like this look better than the idea about a gigantic, ferocious, prehistoric chicken.

third place for this? I think its beautiful. Do not think of it as a failure, but something to build on. Next time place higher and then not only do you place higher in that show, but your standards and your art work will improved to a higher rank in your own standards. Or something wise along those lines. -grins- This a beautiful piece. I love the eyes and the markings. Great work.
