While I'm not too fond ofΒ fanservice-indulgent characters, Mai manages to stand out aΒ bit in that she's not afraid to go after what she wants, and is quiteΒ a capable kunoichi. ...Β Β though I must say my favorite moments are those in which Mai is able to make the usually stoicΒ Andy fall out of character. XD

I've come to learn that sexism and sexualization aren't always the same thing. Between anime and games, I generally appreciate fanservice-indulgent characters if there is enjoyable character to them. It's one of the big reasons I enjoy Bayonetta as a character and franchise (and am super glad to be playing as her in Smash Bros.), and can't really bring myself to like anime titles such as Prison School. It's like picking mushrooms. Sometimes you get good stuff, other times you get sickening poison. You gotta learn to be a connoisseur rather than look at one and disparage the rest.
Apologies for going off on a tangent there, but yes, I do rather enjoy what I've seen of Mai's character, even though I don't play most fighting games (I'm terrible at combo-based fighting). Which is why I love the fact that she's coming to Dead or Alive 5: Last Round as a playable DLC Fighter.
