The original damsel-in-distress before the days of Princess Peach, Pauline was originally kidnapped by Donkey Kong and rescued by Mario back in 1981. Back then, she and Mario were dating, but nowadays, she helps him in the toy manufacturing business by designing miniature versions of him and his friends to be sold as toys. Kindhearted and a bold intellectual architect, Pauline gets aong well with Mario and Donkey Kong, regardless of the latter's attempts to kidnap her. In recent years, she has moved to the Metro Kingdom, where her ingenuity and political finesse have earned her the position of mayor of New Donk City. She is greatly respected and adored by the citizens, both for her leadership and her remarkable singing voice.

Pauline appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the background of the New Donk City Hall stage, where she and her band sing "Jump Up, Super Star," with more elements of the music being added with each member of the band approached. She is also one of the hardest Spirit Battles on the Spirit Board and World of Light.
