A student at Shujin Academy who leads a double life as one of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, his code-name is Skull. Considered a troublemaker at school, a reputation he is quite proud of, Ryuji's rebellious nature makes him an ideal Phantom Thief, though he is a little clumsy. Despite his vulgar, aggressive attitude and short temper, he would never resort to violence, and is very straightforward with his feelings. Ryuji hates the way greedy adults have ruined the state of the world, which stems from his father abandoning him and his mother, who he tries his best to make happy. Ryuji's Persona is Captain Kidd, he wields bludgeoning-type weapons and shotguns, and to the protagonist, he is a Confidant of the Chariot Arcana.

Ryuji appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in three capacities; he is a Spirit on the DLC Spirit Board, he appears in the background of the Mementos stage, and he will assist Joker in his Final Smash, as well as provide some victory banter.
