Description Hieronymus De Vaure, Hermit.

The life of the Christian hermit is rooted in the Desert Theology of the Old Testament.
It is a life entirely given to the praise of God and , through the hermit's penance and prayers, also the service of all humanity.

The year is 2042.
After the oil crisis off 2015 and the breakout of the first genetic plague in 2017, the former world order collapsed and a new era known as the second dark age begun.
The Weimar triangle Kingdom was built upon the ashes of Poland, Germany and France and became the last island of civilization in an european ocean of barbary.
As the genetic knights were patroling the borders and hunting down the mutants roaming the marches of the kingdom, And as the Crusaders led punitive expeditions deep into the wasteland, some people made the choice of a life of seclusion and penance, often deep in the most dangerous areas.
The reasons for choosing such a lifestyle widely difered from one hermit to another, including fanatic faith, misanthropy or philosophical quest.

Despite their solitary lifestyle and the ubiquitous risk of roaming hordes of mutants and marauders, hermits were often feared. They had the reputation to have magical powers, or being contaminated by deadly diseases and therefore being unsuitable for human consumption ...

Thank you very much.
There is a Zen saying, "Before Enlightenment chop wood carry water, after Enlightenment, chop wood carry water."
to put it in Christian terms: being "saved" doesn't mean you have no responsibilities to life. You will still have work to do, both in your physical and in your spiritual life. Being enlightenedΒ  doesn't mean that God is going to give you a life free of work and responsibility.

So i could say:Β  "Before Apocalypse chop wood carry water, after Apocalypse, chop wood carry water."

Oh this I like a lot!
The strange thing with your images is that if the viewer doesn't know the story behind it, his impressions are conflicted. It's all about context. Normally, I'd stay away from any hermit or monk, there's possibly a good reason they want their privacy.

But this is something different entirely. Magical powers and monstrous diseases that keep intruders at bay? I see what you did there, monk. It's precious really. Fear, fear, fear. I'm tempted to think it's all an act, everything from the outfit to the grisly decorations on his bunker. If that is true, he's possibly the only person with a shred of freedom in a several-mile radius.
But I like his bunker, its funny but it also looks cozy. I'd camp there to trade booze and irradiated mushrooms with him. And give the middle finger to any passing invader, of course.

In a world returned to savagery, fear is more efficient than social rank or even pure physical strenght to protect oneself...

Irradiated mushrooms and booze? sounds great! keep some for me

IstTyrr In reply to Vilk42 [2011-09-08 15:53:26 +0000 UTC]

Agreed and I think it's pretty smart. You keep yourself in relative peace, instead of having to battle daily, which is physically and mentally exhausting.

Haha! You're welcome to this wasteland dinner, then.
