The great fish heaves a sigh, but not impatiently. He lingers in the air thoughtfully and finally replies, “Little Maye, if you cannot walk, and you cannot swim, then the only option left is to learn to fly.”Here we have possibly my two oldest original characters
: Maye the china doll and LaoYu (pronounced Law-you) the paper kite. Yes, the fish is a kite but I thought the string ruined the composition so did away with it 
I always found those fish kites very intriguing and beautiful.. and ironic.. Quick storyline!
Maye is a made-in-China doll who was imported to America. She has everything a doll could ask for, but by some turn of events, gets shipped back to China. Once there, she finds herself in a secondhand store/ pawn shop, deprived of everything she had held dear. However, all isn't as terrible as it seems; she meets many queer yet interesting acquaintances and with them, embarks on many adventures. (most of which are based off existing Chinese tales
) Through them, she assimilates the culture she had once rejected. This story was inspired by my life.
And the Chinese culture I was exposed to all throughout my life Maye and LaoYu and all their friends finally became legit characters when I first moved to Shanghai. So.. they're.. 4-5 years old! 
Expect more of Maye!

This is very sweet, what an interesting story and characters, they're quite unique yet I fell as though they'd easily become a child's favourite heroes!
I love once again the textures and painterly style, even though the background is completely abstract, it feels so warm and alive.
The doll's hands are an excellent detail, they are petite against the rest of her, just as real-life dolls are! And I love how soft and kind she looks, plus her kite companion looks mystic and elegant, just as a wise old fish might be. They have both got great colour schemes, too.
The quote at the beginning seems a great 'cut out' scene from your idea for the story - I urge you to please continue this project of yours in the future, because it seems very big on potential. I especially like the bit about her eventually embracing her culture through fun adventures and emotional moments. Very fresh concept!

I really adore your style! and I love this artwork. You made a good choice to do away with the string, I can see how it might have ruined it. I love those fish kites as well!

Giant goldfishes are good to begin with, but add tiny humans and a back story and you get win! The textures and colours are very pleasing too.
