Well, they are human beings after all. A gender is technically mandatory in our species, isn't it? At least that's my point of view...

Actually humans all have a sex - male, female, or some gradient of hermaphrodite. Gender is how we present ourselves to society, which is where you can get transvestites and all that jazz (Male sex & female gender = Drag Queen or Female sex & male gender = Drag King, for example).

I think keeping them gender-neutral is truer to their mythological nature. I think androgyny is beautiful if done correctly.
