Very cool, Vinny the Vynil. it makes me feel something lovely but so very awful at the same time. your very good at capturing people's emotions. it reminds me of the national Geographic in some ways.

My parents were born in Haiti. Haiti, by the way, IS the poorest country in the hemisphere [and it's their fault, in fact, not to be rude], and it sucks when they all move to Florida and find that their lifestyles aren't any better than what it was before.
Haiti was once such a beautiful country, and, like Jamaica, had many foreign visitors at one time [my father's neighbours were Chinese, for example] from various [usually European r Asian] countries, but now, it's hard to fly to Haiti without walking out of the plane and INSTANTLY being kidnapped for ransom.
They're a poor and deplorable people now, and what is worse is that hardly anyone else cares anymore to the point where that little country on the island just might be wiped off of the map. It hurts my father a lot. Your picture, to me, represents what is so close to their fingertips, but society just keeps them right out of reach.

Thank you for your insight. It is such a sad situation. I would love to travel to Haiti. My parents are from Trinidad and the situation there is getting much worse with kidnappings and the flow of drugs going through the country. I really like your last sentence, sums up my picture very well.

Congrats on the DD... it's a pity that such great work has not received as many comments. Usually a DD brings a flood of attention and comments to an artist's work...
somehow it seems like this got overlooked.

Thank you. What you said is true but I am happy that over 800 people viewed it. It is not your typical sunset picture which everybody will respond "nice shot". It is a bit controversial and thought provoking. Sometimes people don't like seeing reality especially if its in your own backyard. Thanks again.

Great picture, though I think you might crop out some more of the left. Either way, nothing takes away from the meaning.
Sadly, though "Little Haiti" exists in Florida, it hardly could exist in a worse place. Outside of the natural disasters that have always frequently ravaged Florida, there is also the economy of the state, which is more expensive than many. It makes that much-fabled "American dream" even harder.
My father worked as a claims handler for the SBA (small business association) for a time after the hurricanes in Florida. He met many Haitian people and found them to be lovely, hard working individuals. It really was sad to him to see their lives affected so negatively, after working so hard. I would hope that many have opted to try to leave the state after all the devastation, not because Florida is a bad place to live, but because it maybe isn't a good place to try to start out, even if you've been living in the states your whole life.
I love this picture, the expressions and meaning. You did an excellent job of capturing true emotion.

I just got this picture blown up to 24 x 16...It is very hard to look at. I had to remove it from where I put it because it is such an emotional picture. Thanks for your insight. It is a very sad situation indeed. When I look at this picture now, I can see the same situation in New Orleans.

Very good shot, especially given that you didn't pose those children! I sense the questioning in their expressions..."what good is this flag? what good has its nation done for us??" I'm glad to see more people opening their eyes to the grand injustice of the situation in Haiti; it's really quite infuriating! But rest assured, Haitians cna be very angry when provoked...it's only a matter of time before the Haitians stop waiting for justice to be served and tip the scales with their bare hands!!

they look upset and for good reason, is our "land of the free" really all that free?
free compared to what?!? to a 3rd world country? maybe, but by how much?
to the poor the hype may be less than satisfactory.

Good luck!
Honestly!
I'm also going into journalism, but more on the print side, to work with an electronics magazine once I'm graduated from college.
Everyone can get their dream job, and you look like you're well on your way!
