BACKGROUND:Originally a resident of Beetle Land on File Island (Unwavering Forest), Basil became partnered to Victoria White upon reaching Rookie level. Ever since, he has resided with her in a suburban neighborhood in Thousand Oaks, California. The pair are somewhat like merciful mercenaries in the Digital World when there is no threat to be taken care of in the Real World, taking jobs to help weaker or less able Digimon in need in exchange for considerably small rewards (or sometimes no reward at all if they’re needed badly enough and no payment can be given). Basil has gained enough experience from this to be able to maintain Champion level normally, though will sometimes assume Rookie level if it happens to be more convenient.
Vickie is able to disguise Basil well enough with clothing for to pass him off as human (or sometimes they won’t bother with a disguise and ignorant onlookers will assume he’s wearing a costume), so he’s able to reside comfortably in the Real World. At this point, his understanding of humans and how to interact with them is good enough that he’s sometimes allowed to roam on his own for a time. Usually, though, both Basil and his tamer are sort of shut-ins. They prefer to spend their free time with video games, movies, anime, and such various pop culture pastimes. This is likely another reason Basil was able to reach Champion level and maintain it so well; he has developed a very strong friendship with his partner through shared hobbies, with a large chunk of it being multiplayer gaming.
Assuming ACTUAL real world fandoms exist in the canon of Digimon, some of their favorite series include Super Smash Bros., Overwatch, MapleStory, Destiny, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Star Wars, Disney/Pixar, Marvel, DC, Alien, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, One Punch Man, Dragon Ball Z, Sword Art Online (earlier episodes), and Desert Punk.
PERSONALITY:Though Basil and Vickie are casual best friends, in dire situations it becomes evident he treats her with the same fierce and unyielding loyalty a drone bee gives to his queen. He is fully prepared to live and die for her, and be happy doing it. It’s well-hidden, and he denies it, but this is partly due to an interest in her beyond friendship.
Though he is precise and confident in combat, he tends to be meek in social situations until he’s on comfortable terms with whoever he’s in the presence of. Until he knows someone well, he’s usually soft-spoken, quiet, and will tend to listen and passively participate with whatever everyone else is doing or talking about. Once he considers someone a friend, though, his more true nature becomes clear: When he gets going about something he likes or finds interesting, he can keep talking enthusiastically about it for a very long time (assuming he doesn’t think he’s annoying the person(s) he’s talking to). He’s very much fascinated by and obsessed with real world pop culture, specifically things most consider “geeky” or “nerdy.”
HABITS:Eats primarily very sugary foods, fruits, and some meat, but will always prefer the sweet things. If he’s run out of sweet things to snack on, sometimes he’ll go out and take nectar from nearby plant life. Within about a 2-mile radius of his house, the plant life thrives incredibly well because of his pollination.
About once every 6 weeks or so (assuming he’s stayed in Champion form this long), Basil will find a small container with a lid and produce honey into it. He does not let anyone see him do this, but he’ll happily share about half of it with the house. It always comes out as a weird color, though, since he eats a lot of candy with coloring in it instead of just nectar, so not everyone is keen on eating the honey.
When startled or surprised while in any form that has wings, Basil will vibrate the wings very quickly to make a sound much like the “whoop” made by bees instead of saying something like “Oh!”
Sometimes when encountering a group of bees or wasps, Basil will temporarily have the urge to join in on whatever they’re doing as a sort of “hive mind” response. If it’s a very large swarm, he will almost be unable to ignore it unless he’s dragged away from the influence.
Basil is a big fan of shipping things in his favorite fandoms.
Enjoys mostly electronic music genres, especially easy things to dance to. In his more humanoid forms, Basil will dance when no one is watching (unless he’s DanceDanceRevolution, which anyone is welcome to watch).
Basil’s exoskeletal armor is removable, so he often goes without the gauntlets in order to better hold a controller.
