You aced the DoF!

I struggle with this effect too. Much trial and error on my part revealed the tips Jorge and Sabine shared below.

Will you join in the MB3D Teaser this month? fav.me/d94a8sx

I see the teasers all the time, but am not really good with MDB so I never join, if I joined and couldn't be able to make a piece work would I have to submit a piece? I am sure there are rules posted, I get lazy trying to look for it lol, glad you like it thanks for stopping in

Not to worry. Set a watch and work up a few trials. When you have something that pleases you then enter!

Thank you, it wasn't easy getting it like that, I have so much trouble trying to get the DOF to work, all the tutorials that I've seen are a bit out dated, glad you like this one 😊

batjorge In reply to Virginia-Fred [2015-08-07 20:05:06 +0000 UTC]

You can set the Z1 sharp to 0 and use the Z2 sharp. So you see everything beyond the Z2 will get blurred. Later you can easily spot the Z1 (if neccesary), it blurs all what is in front of the given value.
You're welcome

Ohhh ok that explains a lot, as always thanks for the tips 👌

Thank you so much, I've been working with DOF, trying to see how it works, it was 4 days before I was satisfied with this one, sometimes I can get it to work but mostly no glad you like it

Sabine62 In reply to Virginia-Fred [2015-08-07 18:38:01 +0000 UTC]

Dof can be tricky Because it really just works with the depth (not really intelligent ), sometimes I get a very nice blur up front and in the back, but at the same time very near the front and seemingly in an unlogic place there's unwanted 'sharpness'. Then I have to either rotate the whole structure a bit or learn to live with it or switch off the dof. I usually try to live with it
Most welcome, Gina!

I try to live with it, but it will continue to bother so the work either gets cursed out, or I will put it into the save for later file lol

LOL You have a hard disk like that too?
Mine is some sort of graveyard of the lost and forgotten half-finished renders

Virginia-Fred In reply to Sabine62 [2015-08-08 01:54:15 +0000 UTC]

Yes I sure do, I will go back from time to time and have a aha moment, and then wonder why it didn't work the first time, lol
