This is how I am slowly getting there on this one.Second work in progress of my drawing of Jessie Ware using a black ballpoint pen.

Yeah, I regret now having put drawing aside for all this time... You know, you go to university and start working a full time job and have kids, etc, and there was no time for drawing (I thought there wasn't...) 
I wonder the skill level I would have reached today if I never stopped. So I started again a couple months ago and I love it, and I won't stop this time!
You can see my first WIP of it if you want, it's called The Gold Watch [link] . I have no idea when it will be finished...
As to perfectionism, it is good to have a certain level of perfectionism but sometimes it starts to be a pain in the ass when you push it too far, you're never happy with what you've done and all you see are the mistakes or where you can improve. So, good in a way, tiring in another...

Yeah, pencil portraits can be daunting, especially when you're a perfectionist like I am. I'm working on a pencil portrait also (my first in 15 years 
Just keep going and I'm sure it will be awesome! I'll check it when you submit the final version.

I, too, am a perfectionist. I usually get about 89% done with a piece and then I hear my inner OCD Goddess screaming at me that I'm going to eff it up
