Schvaal are the servants of Tyrassu, the Lord of Storms a.k.a. the Chained God. Once mundane beings (usually humans or trolls), they have been corrupted by the influence of Tyrassu, warped into cold, emaciated husks of their former selves. Whatever Tyrassu cannot corrupt in them he kills. This creates a wide disparity in intelligence between schvaal.

Individuals who welcome the Chained God's whispers of power are completely converted, leaving their minds virtually intact, creating a monster capable of using weapons, armor, and tactics in their war against Barruhund's people, the Ishellans. Those that resist the change and corruption are 'killed', leaving only their bodies behind as puppets for Tyrassu's use. These schvaal are little more than ravenous, merciless animals like the one pictured here.
