Phantom Opal was originally five different gems, two of whom were deeply in love, the other three enemies of the two lovers. This causes their forced fusion of Phantom Opal to be in constant turmoil internally, which she overcompensates for by being completely stoic and emotionless on the outside. She drifts from place to place, many gems who see her thinking her to be an actual ghost.
