Well, a bit of backstory for this one:
Eurich is a traveling necromancer wizard from a well-known academy of a very high-magic city. They study many dangerous and vicious things for science and Eurich volunteered to be infected with a deadly disease to study it in vivo. This disease spreads through the body, literally growing under the skin like vines, so he has to wear hooded clothes to hide it.
The disease slowly kills him but it also amplifies his magic abilities and twists them a bit so he takes notes of what's happening with his body and mind.

Ercell is his fellow companion. Since Eurich is ill, Ercell is always somewhere nearby, trying to cure him. The disease in known to be incurable but Ercells "medication" thought seems to be very primitive still keeps the disease from killing Eurich, greatly slowing the disease's spreading.
