I think Blender is Awesome!

It is, once you get to know it well enough.

Ah, blender. I've heard some very good things about that. Nice.

I know I should know what that is, but somehow I don't. Slizers?

For six days in a program as 'robust' as Blender, this is pretty gosh-darned good. Plus you've learned Rigging? I've managed to model things in 3Ds Max, but Rigging is as of yet, beyond me.
Hoping to see some more stuff like this! Keep at it!

Vrahno In reply to Terrichance [2010-10-16 11:43:30 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Rigging was indeed a hard task. I don't even know how many times I had to start over. And to make matters worse, I'm already forgetting how it's done! :S

Terrichance In reply to Vrahno [2010-10-17 01:08:53 +0000 UTC]
Repetition repetition repetition! Make a few more figures and get them rigged up, the knowledge is more likely to stay when you do it more often. Plus you'll have the chance to experiment and streamline the process the more you do it. So don't lose it! Use it!

Not to worry, I'm working on it. My second attempt will surely roll much smoother.

what was teh process for this ? did you make the pieces individual objects?

Pretty much, and later joined them all into one piece.

God DAMN. You achieved that in 6 days of working with Blender? I can't figure out Blender to save my life, ever.
I have 3D Studio Max, but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to use it.
Props, man, your desire to make awesome 3D models far exceeds mine. xD

Hah, wow! XD This is immensely tons better than MY first completed mesh. You certainly did a much better job than I did. :3 (Mine was a simple gingerbread man. XD) Haven't been working on that program for a while now....
I have found Blender to be furstrating as well, but truly enough, for a free program it's a very, very powerful rendering program.
By the way, how did you do the shapes of the individual pieces? Moved the vertices individually, subdivision? And I'm guessing that you used bones as well.
Anyway, incredible work for a 'beginner'. :3

I have blender now, but I'm even more clueless. bones? rigging? help?
π: 0 β©: 1
JarODragon In reply to cutemute34 [2011-03-07 08:30:00 +0000 UTC]
Bones and rigging are just literally the pieces that make your still figure (which, proffessionally, (and if it's a upright standing character) is usually in a 'T' position) 'pose'. If you've only just got the grogram I suggest you don't worry about it until much later. Focus first on meshing, texturing and such before going to posing and animating.

Hey man this is great for a first try. We've all gotta start somewhere and this is a good start. I see you've beefed it up with some bionicle like elements as well. Nice job there. WHy do you only have a year to get the hang of the program though?
π: 0 β©: 1
Vrahno In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2010-09-05 17:43:18 +0000 UTC]
Because I'm taking a year off from schoolwork, and I'd like to spend the time learning something I'm actually interested in.

Vrahno In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2010-09-05 20:47:02 +0000 UTC]
Similar. I "chickened out" almost at the last minute. Would've gone to a university to study engineering and all kinds of related subjects, but these leave me cold, and it would have been pointless to spend a year learning them. There were also other factors (money, shuttling, my APD), but this is the main reason.

Vrahno In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2010-09-07 15:26:43 +0000 UTC]
At least you know what you're interested in. I on the other hand have no idea what kind of profession I should seek. Nor, for that matter, whether there's any opportunity to pursue it near my place.

That is amazing! Love the uniqueness in the design from it's counterpart.
So which Slizer is it anyways?
π: 0 β©: 1
Vrahno In reply to The-HT-Wacom-Man [2010-09-04 23:44:05 +0000 UTC]
It started out as Spark, but I realized his arms are the other way around, and I couldn't change them. So think of it as a generic, nameless Slizer.

Lol blender. I got that and looked at it. After 5 minutes of staring I realized I had no idea what any of the buttons on the screen did and after clicking them nothing changed. Also, their tutorial was a book you had to buy, but the software is free >.>
Nice work on the pic, though.

Vrahno In reply to Darksorm [2010-09-04 23:42:51 +0000 UTC]
I almost did the same. I had to browse through tons of free tutorials to know just where to start, but they all explain things differently. I ended up learning a lot through the old-fashioned method of trial and error. Even so, whenever I encountered a problem, my progress immediately stopped for a few hours, until I gathered spirit to have another go.

Very interesting... All these little shapes resemble your drawings to some extent. So, is the program overwhelmingly tedious, or is it rewarding?
π: 0 β©: 1
Vrahno In reply to NickOnPlanetRipple [2010-09-04 23:39:01 +0000 UTC]
It's hard to get the feel of, since even the most basic commands are different from what most of us are used to (like, for instance, the right mouse button is used for selecting), and there are tremendous amounts of buttons. I wouldn't say it's overwhelmingly tedious, but tedious nonetheless, just like any complicated software you're not familiar with.
I think its most important asset is that it's free. Doesn't mean it's easy to use.
