I promise I'll get back to my Nuka AU soon, just had to get this one off my list of ideas in my list.

Anyways, the premise for this picture is that if Simba never left the Pridelands, aka Scar never got the chance to kill Mufasa and was foiled or something, and say Malka was psuedo-adopted into the pride and Simba's family as his stepbrother, that would kinda put Malka in position as the Lion Guard. Given that there are four other cubs to choose from in the pride, the friendly five become the Lion Guard of this generation.

Malka(fiercest)- Kinda no-brainer, especially considering the comic he appears in Mufasa and Sarabi literally say that if his pride isn't found that they'll be willing to take him in as a new brother for Simba. Considering he also went after both Shenzi and Ed by himself should also give some indication how fierce, see moronic, he is.

Since the mother dying/disappearing trope is so overused, let's just say for context reasons that Malka's mother was gone for more than several days and within that time Malka was informally adopted by the king and queen. When Malka's mother does appear and see that her son has been given a stable place and has actually remained within the pride safely she decides it might be best for her son to stay here, especially since it appears he has friends and doesn't get lost from this pride. Though reunited with his mother, Malka still has a strong connection with his new family and does graciously accept the position as Lion Guard.

I mentioned this before that I've made Malka a Barbary lion, which are typically known as the biggest, hairiest lions... didn't really do much to showcase that here.... let's just say he's a bit of a late bloomer, but when puberty does hit he'll be massive, even Mufasa will be impressed.

Tamasha/Tama(bravest)-(I know Tama's name is described as meaning 'frank/truthful' in her bio , though google translate tells me no, but apparently Tamasha means 'festival', which is good enough for me.)

Tama always struck me as a sassy, non-nonsense cub. In her comic appearance she was shown to be brave and resourceful with Nala when saving Simba from a bunch of snakes and then scaling up the side of a waterfall. I like to think that the position of bravest kinda went over several traits, such as resourcefulness, strategic, boldness, fearlessness, wit, and maybe a dash of crazy(ex Bunga/Shabaha). Tama serves as Malka's second-in-command, having the boldness and strategies to lead and aid in times when he's not at his best.

Tama and Kula are also the first female members on the Lion Guard... or at least that's what everyone thinks. Biologically speaking male lions are stronger and are more fit for the job considering they have manes to protect their throats and also giving young male lions are place in the pride. I have this small idea that in one of the previous Lion Guards there was a certain member who did have a mane... but not the other male aspects. For the record, I did update my Tama design so that's she is a maned lioness, though after several design failures I just decided to give her just a small scruff on the back of her head to indicate where she'll get one later.

Chumvi(strongest)- Chumvi in my universe is a Tsavo lion along with his sister Kula. Though they came along with what would've been the early days of Scar's reign and were taken in along with their mother into the pride, in this universe the story is much happier for them. He serves as the Guard's strongest and I'll explain why.

Chumvi struck me as a bit of a salty character, fitting or that's what his name means. He is described in the comic he appears in as playful, adventurous, humorous, dare-devilish, arrogant, and prideful, and considering he states a line that is very similar to Zira's in TLG, I kinda associate him with the type of lioness I assume her to be, Tsavo. Tsavo lions, described as 'man-eating' lions in real life, in this universe as just an informal term for a kind of lion out there. Typically associated with rogues or more viscous prides, 'Tsavo' lions are also terms denoting outsiders and unpleasant lions, though it also can be associated with some physical traits such as hooked noses, darker fur, always present claws, thinner/leaner body types, unique fur patterns, etc. There is a bit of a stigma surrounding Tsavo lions, heck even though queen Uru came from a viscous Tsavo pride eventually claimed her life. Chumvi and Kula thankfully only possess a few of the traits associated with Tsavo lions, though it is a bit of a sore subject to bring up.

I made Chumvi the strongest since it was the last position I had left and I had no one else... or actually because I headcanoned that in the original story he's in that he does a lot of stupid dares such as lifting rocks and stuff in order to impress his peers, which is what prompts him to dare Nala in the story. He's a bit of a salty rough fellow here, someone who uses a lot of sarcasm and can be rather blunt at times, though he genuinely does love him work and team underneath. His salty nature makes him a bit at odds with Tama and her sassy wit, though it's typically just good natured ribbing and the like. I also see him be a bit protective of his twin sister, even though he's on the guard as well.

Kula(fastest)- I guess all that food she was eating was going into her energy/speed reserves.

Anyways, Kula's a very sweet girl. Aside from her love of eating she has a deep love for her pride, home, family, and friends. She was inspired to come onboard the Lion Guard after her brother came aboard and then her friend Tama practically demanded to be let on as well. Though she doesn't always enjoy having to wake up so early and get out so much, Kula does have a strong sense of duty and desire to serve. She's the optimistic sweetheart of the group and offers concerns and more brighter outlooks to the Guard.

Though her form is nothing really to look at, don't let her fool you. There's a lot of power condensed into those muscles, amplified by how much protein she consumes. Kula's a really speedy gal, though she still does keep close by to her team.

Matojo/Tojo(keenest of sight)- Another case of the name not going well through google translate, so it got lengthened. At least with the mark it makes much more sense, headspots aside.

Tojo here is the son of Sarabi's sister Dwala and an Asiatic lion, making Tojo both a hybrid and Simba's cousin. Being a hybrid does have some not so nice side-effects though, his body is weaker then the other lions in his pride and he frequently hurts himself like spraining his leg . This has caused him to be a bit cautious and pessimistic about his predicament, though thankfully it doesn't really slow him down.

After his adoption of several newly-hatched birds(not pictured), his confidence grew and he began displaying more and more protective and mature traits. Having an army of birds also is helpful, having them go out and report of possible dangers and obstacles for him is convenient to have when you're prone to tripping. He's also more fluent and affluent among the birds as well, having raised a few of their kind and learning a bit more of their own personal language and mannerisms. Because of this and because blue/aqua eyes are apparently more perceptive then other ones, he serves as the keenest of sight, along with his bird brigade. Though he still often hurts himself, as seen by his lifted back leg, he's still more then willing to serve and help. Because of his injuries he's a pretty humble guy and does try his best to be more optimistic nowadays, such as trying to be more sensitive and friendly to those in turmoil.

And for the record, Tama does still get together with Kula and Tojo with Chumvi, though everyone here doesn't go off and become a separate pride. As for where Scar and his hyenas are in all this... you got me there. I can't remember which comic it was, though I do know in a certain Dutch comic Timon and Pumbaa were apparently friends with Simba and Nala and also Mufasa knew about Scar converging with the hyenas. Let's just say Mufasa managed to pull himself up from the cliff, got the story from Simba, saw both Scar and the hyenas in the area and banished his brother, though the guy and his army still try to come in and make trouble for the Pridelanders. And also Malka stays with the pride for longer until his mother comes back and decides to let him stay with them.

Also, because the art program I'm using is stupid, it both deleted the work I initially had for this picture and then also didn't save when I added the sunset colors for the cubs, meaning I had to go back and do it all over again. God I need to change programs.

And yeah, I do know that Chumvi/Kula's Lion Guard positions are different from the ones I mentioned in the earlier picture and I initially was going to add them as the fastest/strongest respectively, but then I couldn't really justify it here. Plus, again, male lions are technically stronger then females and I did make Kula rather small and Chumvi is rather buff for a runner. I suppose I could've made Kula look more like a cub version of Imara and thinned Chumvi out a bit... though by that point I had already drawn them twice and I was just too tired. Whatever makes my life easier I guess. Let's just say that Kula is the only cub that is able to pin her brother.

Next time I will be getting back to my Nuka AU, I swear.
