Description Here's a quick way to to use Paint Shop Pro to determine your image's Print Size and Aspect Ratio for your DA Prints account.

1) From the 'Image' drop-down menu, click on 'Resize'.

2) Click on 'Percentage of original' and set 'Width' and 'Height' to 100%.

3) Blue eyes: Image Size/'Pixel size': These show the Minimum & Excellent image sizes required for the various DA Print sizes/Pixel size of the current image you're checking (Width:1792 x Height:1200). This image (1200x1800) is the minimum size for an 8x12 print and an excellent size for a 4x6 print.

4) Red eyes: Aspect Ratio/'Maintain aspect ratio of:' These show the Aspect Ratio of the various DA Print sizes/Aspect ratio of the current image you're checking (1.4933 to 1). This image's aspect ratio (1.50:1) matches the DA Print sizes of 4x6, 8x12, 10x15, 16x24 and 20x30.

Based on the above info, I should get a great 4x6 print out of this image. And, depending on my image quality, I might be able to squeak an 8x12 print out of it, too.

If I cropped the image to a 1.25:1 (1.25 to 1) aspect ratio, then I could get a 4x5 or 8x10 print out of it. And if I cropped it to an aspect ratio of 1.40:1, I could get a 5x7 print out of it.

Remember, If you want to get large prints, you have to create large images of good quality (low to no noise; high resolution) for your DA Print account. These images will need to be reduced in size before you submit them to your regular DA account/gallery.

To Jess, who found aspect ratio rather confusing, I hope this helps!

Yes, to change the ratio you'll need to crop the image.

If you still have access to PSP, you can open an image in it and check the aspect ratio as per this tutorial. If not, there should be a resize mode in Photoshop that will give you the same data as the one in Paint Shop Pro.

The rest of the info in this tutorial is still valid in regards to aspect ratios.

977x802 pixels gives you an aspect ratio of 1.218204 to 1 or, rounding up, 1.22 to 1 (1.22:1). The closest DA Print aspect ratio is 1.25 to 1 (1.25:1). The print sizes that fall within that aspect ratio are 4x5, 8x10 and 16x20.

The minimum size for a 4x5 print is 600x750. '1943' with it's 802x977 size exceeds the minimum! But, the minimum size for an 8x10 is 1200x1500, so '1943' is too small for that. So, if DA Prints accepts '1943', it will only be available in a 4x5 print.

So when you're taking pictures, use the largest resolution! This will give you the least number of pictures you can take before downloading them to your computer. But the larger image size will allow you to get larger prints made!

Remember, although DA Prints needs the largest image possible for good prints, you'll need to reduce the image before you submit it to your regular DA account. Image sizes needed for prints are too large for your gallery.
