This is just the rough compositional sketch to get a feel for the layout of the image.
Basically, I placed photos of the tazmanian tiger and the model whose pose I wanted to use (she was kneeling rather than standing) on separate layers in the sizes I needed them to be in relation to one another. Also, I erased the photo backgrounds and used a black background for the comp.
Then, I placed separate layers over each of the photos and sketched in the details with my digital pad. After hiding the photos and adjusting sketch placements, I added another layer for the purple glows.
Now that I had the comp image like I wanted it, I inverted it to dark lines on a white background and printed it out. This gave me the hard copy reference to do my final sketch from.
Of course, now that the final sketch is done, my scanner's kaput! So it goes...
Once the sketch gets scanned, I can do the coloring, shading, and background. At least that's the plan!
