how do you do your digital characters? I'm just basically doing concepts for my novel, pencil lines, inking them--right now with a regular pen, gonna try the type of pen you dip into ink--scanning and coloring with GIMP. Not much detail. Not much attempt to be fancy. I can tell here you have lights and darks and etc

ah, the tablet, just not sure I could draw with one of those, just feel there wouldn't be enough friction to give me proper control

Hmm yeah, it does take a little getting used to. I still have trouble doing my lineart, lol. Which is why I usually have to draw it on paper first.
But it's really great for the colouring!

but maybe it IS a getting used to it kinda thing
How much is the range of these things? I am thinking of getting a bigger scanner, for bigger than copy paper sized paper, but I'm on a fixed budget sorta. In other words, I only have so much every month.
Repeat what you do again. You sketch, then use tracing paper, then scan, then use the tablet?

I only use tracing paper when I need a much cleaner copy... because that stuff is bloody expensive, lol
Uhm, I think my Wacom was around 140AUD. It's a Bamboo pen and touch, but you can get the one below it for about 100$
If you're in America I think they're actually quite a bit cheaper...

so it's technically within my range, only have about 200 US dollars free to spend a month
I'm definitely getting a drafting table to replace my makeshift tables with a box easle on one of them.
Explain 'clean copy.'

Hmm... lol, sometimes I just have trouble doing half-decent looking lineart, so I need a pretty clean/neat copy...
like if I redo it on tracing paper, I try to get rid of all the messiness, and make the lines as clean as possible... I just finds it makes the lineart a hell of a lot easier...

it doesn't show up when you scan, so only your ink lines do and it's cleaner I guess...I can't find one at Michaels

Great work on this one. Great detail on her face there, especially the eyes.
