I think the problem is it would have been too glorious and every subsequent thing would have paled in comparison, so he had to reduce the effect so that he wouldn't have to simply quit Homestuck then and there. Although, an alternate ending where Kanaya kills all of the bad guys with nut shots and saves the day would have been a pretty great way to end the comic.

but ive been working on making a group of fantrolls all of my own design
theyre all based off of astronomical symbols

i cant think of a typing quirk for earth, mars, or uranus
[link] all of the others involve their symbols
for example

Hm I must agree I am rather surprised that you inquire that of me, though I will also say that I am flattered that you would ask me.
Hm I see the conundrum you have. I'll see if I can't provide some ideas on the subject...

Earth: Replace t with + and capitalize Os perhaps? SOme+hing a bi+ like wha+ I'm dOing nOw. You could also make a somewhat obscure reference to the "third rock from the Sun" analogy for Earth and use ellipses... (You could make it specific to if the character ever says "Oh." and replace it with "O...")

Mars: Add ->, >, ^ after o perhaps?
This is o->ne way yo-> could do-> it.
This is ano>ther way to> do> it.
This is yet ano^ther way to^ do^ it.

Uranus: If accented letters are permitted, I might say converting i or o to î or ô.
Another option could be to use circles or colons instead of periodsO Admittedly it's stretching it a bit, thoughO (The colon could also be a bad pun alluding to the bad pun commonly associated with Uranus).
Yet an(.)ther (.)pti(.)n y(.)u c(.)uld try is t(.) d(.) s(.)mething like this.

Well there are a few ideas. Hopefully they are at least of some use to you. Feel free to inquire if you have any other things you'd like a little brainstorm on. Do be sure to let me know how those characters of yours go. I daresay you've piqued my curiosity.

I have completed all of the speech quirks that the astronomically based trolls have.


Sun- uses all caps except for Os and encases said Os in ( ) e.g.
HELL(o) GUYS H(o)W IS EVERY(o)NE T(o)DAY? He doesn't punctuate other than periods.


Mercury- puts apostrophe around Os and if there are 2 Os together he puts quotation mark e.g.
Hell'o' h'o' are y'o'u? I h'o'pe y'o'ur d'o'ing g'o"o'd!


Venus- replaces Os with capital Qs e.g.
HellQ hQw are yQu?


Earth- replaces Ts with +s and capitalizes Os e.g.
HellO hOw are yOu? I +ruly hOpe +ha+ yOu are dOing well.


Mars- puts a shield in front and skews all of his words. talks like ancient roman... for some reason. example:
--O--Hark-for-you-have-arrived-->


Jupiter- replaces Ls with 4s e.g.
the poor 4itt4e thing has no p4ace to go home to.


Saturn- double Hs and never capitalizes or ends with anything but a period e.g.
whhy hhello thhere! hhow are you.


Uranus-starts sentence with <-(O)- and then uses perfect grammar. tends to act like a den mother of sorts. a bit theatrical e.g.
<-(O)-Hello my child. How are you on this most glorious of days?


neptune- [replaces Ws with ///, \\\, |||, 111, !!!, ]|[, and most commonly \|/. if a T is in the front of its word its capitalized e.g.

pluto- [yes i know its not a planet anymore but it has an easy to manipulate symbol >_>] [replaces Q with lower case P. all Ls are 1s. all Ps are uppercase. tends to use wordy sentences e.g.

Ah, a nice set you have there. Quite well thought out. I like how you incorporated some elements of the planet's historical relevance into their personalities.

As for making the trolls...yes I believe I would be partial to assisting with that. If you'd like we can get a note thread on the topic. I imagine you have some ideas already, but I'll be more than happy to provide some additional ideas as needed. That and I can definitely help with making the sprites. They can still be molded a bit to make them more fitting with their mythological counterparts, though i think the quirks work and the personalities are a rough draft of sorts.

Hm yes. I was thinking that a good way to go about it would be to make a short list of the traits commonly associated with each planet (sorted by origin perhaps, such as Roman mythology and such) and then pick and choose those, perhaps associating them with more modern sociological trends.

Just to give a quick vague example:

Mars
-Associated with masculinity and youth
-Roman god of war
-Popular suggested location for alien life

Personality ideas
-A frat boy/bro perhaps? A young boisterous manly dude who tends to get confrontational when his masculinity is put into question.
-Fond of alien mythos

This would be a quick random example (and I stress it's just one example. Other ideas could be provided as we go along of course) of how we could speculate to tie in cultural associations with each planet into their personalities.


Heh don't worry. I'm sure we have plenty at our disposal.
Hm having more collaborators is certainly an idea. I'm open to the notion, though I myself don't really know who would be interested in such a thing. I would hope there aren't too many though, for fear of over-saturation of ideas and conflict.
My apologies for not appearing on the IM there. I suppose I failed to mention that my availability has a nasty habit of being sporadic at best. If this is as it seems and it functions like Google docs (in that we can use it as a common resource on which to put information and discuss), then yes I think it will work quite nicely.
If you are partial to my earlier proposal then I'll get right on making that list along with some miscellaneous suggestions of my own with which to get started.

I'm biased towards the roman god of war part to be honest. It seems like it would go well with the spear theme of his text, though the actual quirk could change depending on what is agreed upon.

I think we should have at most 2 more people. but preferably 1 more, though i cant really think of whom I would like to bring i, if anyone.
TypeWithMe is basically as you described it.
My idea was that we have 2 distinct colours to type in [as to differentiate whose ideas are whose] and we can write suggestions on different characters. The person not writing the idea will either cross it out or make it bold. If it's crossed out we need to write why and if it's bold we need to elaborate. I typed in an example of how I believe it would work.[link]

Fair point. We can discuss it further in the doc or via our note thread, but I think I have a couple ideas regarding it (for example, a thought comes to mind of the stereotypical "Greek row" frat house theme, but on Alternia the notion roughly translates to "House full of angry Spartans").

Yes, if you are so inclined we could add someone. I don't particularly mind either way, provided they're adequately qualified (ie has a decent imagination and isn't a douche). Working with two is fine by me though, and I can't really think of anyone who would have time to assist.

Hm yes I quite like it. It could most definitely work.
The facial hair does remind me, approximately what age are we setting these trolls to be? It would be feasible for them to be something like 7 or 8 sweeps (15 to 17 in human years), which would keep the standard kid/troll sprite forms reasonable while allowing for further signs of age. Of course since those don't show other features like body shape, I could always make talk-sprites such as the ones in the flashes if need be, though that may take a bit longer so I'll save it for much later as a possibility.
