According to the sprites on Serebii, the top of the tail determines the gender. Here, it's offscreen. So it's anyone's guess really.

Somebody told me that, in the manga, Pikachu evolved, but I haven't been able to get a single issue.
In the team of my OC trainer, there is a Raichu, Thunderbolt: loyal, strong, able... and always finishes having the roadmap upside down

but I think it would be mentioned on the pokemon wikia(the fact that pikachu evolved)... maybe it was a doujinshi? x3
anyways raichus are pretty much like that, royal, strong
and a bit lil arrogant too ;3(on both episodes where he fights pikachu at least xD)

Rumors, as I said. Well, he is adorable, anyway.
I remember the Raichu thatmakes Pikachu lose all patience in "Pikachu's vacations", heehee! They passed half the short trying yo knock out each other across all the Pokemon vacation ranch!
But it came to mind one that was quite shy (an episode where they met a vaudeville troupe performing on a riverboat); poor thing was so devoid of self-confidence he didn't know how to use his power!
Thunderbolt has a good friend in the team, a Pikachu called Matt, a sweet, understanding, loyal friend for all in the team. Matt is perhaps one of the most unusual Pikachus to battle in any region: he is blind.

Nope. Matt is my OC Pikachu. He was found wandering aimlessly in a beach, after a hurricane. His left arm and tail were fractured... and the worst was to come. Harold (my OC trainer) took him to a hospital, where they discovered a fractured skull as well. Bone splinters had damaged permanently Matt's brain in the vision processing area; blind without remedy.
Harold decided to keep him in his team and began to train him in a different way, to use his electricity sending elastic pulses around him and picking them to form a 'radar' image, like an electric eel uses its electricity.
Whoever thinks Matt is an easy prey, will have a really unpleasant experience!
Harold specializes in picking up rejected or injured Pokemon (or rescuing them from abusive trainers) and training them in uncommon ways, and/or fitting them to have a better life quality: his Lopunny, Cassiopeia, has a bionic leg, for instance.

Harold is really a sweet, compassionate person, despite his fierceness with those sadistic trainers. When Lakhme was passing by a period of very low self-esteem, he arranged a special picnic for them both. They played, lunched, took a nap and enjoyed a day like two friends (Lakhme was more than a bit disconcerted since her previous trainer only mistreated her)
Surprises he had still a few. After dinner, he turned on all the outer lights, led her to the parking lot, made a signal to Thunderbolt, his Raichu... and before the startled Zoroark could even blink, he was leading her at the notes of 'Tales of the Vienna woods'
This and the reassurance each of the other Pokemon gave her, convinced Lakhme she had now the best trainer she could dream of; more to the point, she had a friend.
