Thank you for your submission to
Wonderful photo! Such a peaceful scene - but such drama and a great story line with the building falling in. Great composition!

Odd placing of the tree - but it seems to work - like it's pressing down on the semi-collapsed structure !

I think that is a time this Doug. The trees were planted almost 100 years ago, some even more. The building came up later. I like how the pictures is juxtaposed.... the building is old and decayed, but the tree still grows even though it is far older than the building itself. I think that reminds me that nature is far stronger and resilient than we think, and that man is far less resilient that we believe.

I do so love your glimpses into the rear-view mirror of a changing world. Such glorious geometry, color, and composition.

thank you, I like how you have put this. As I was reading, your words brought this image to mind . This is my friend Reese on one of our trips. He was also with me when I took "Language of the Plains". He has a way of looking at the world and life that is quite unique. He has taught me a lot.

The vibrant grass around and the trees behind the collapsing building give this scene a sense of decay and renewal. Nicely done.

Nice capture, Wayne! The tree adds an element to this photo not usually found in your prairie ruins series, and I love the look of the sky here, too.

you might be interested in knowing that it is these very trees that mark most of the houses I have found (even if I have not included them in the images). They were planted by the early settlers close to their homes to provide some shelter. Now I just refer to them as marker trees because they guide me to old homesteads.

I should have added that information to the original comment, but I did not. Your comment to me, reminded me and I have added something about the trees. Thanks for the reminder.
