Description Halloween is just around the corner and the ghost and ghouls are getting ready for their big night. This little ghoul, the fire gremlin, appears to have a strange egg it wishes to show us ....

Gremlin Texture: I manipulated GIMP Granite#1 to create the base colour for my gremlin

Fire gremlin description: these small gremlins normally shy away from human eyes, their colouration makes them hard to see when they are in their favourite hideout, your fireplace chimney!

Update:
My friend the fire gremlin, who I named "Whisp" after saving from a very unfriendly dog one evening, has been busy. Whisp allows me to see him because he trusts me after saving his life, and it appears the lead up to Halloween is the only time they will breed, which is why I have been seeing an increase in activity lately. The eggs can only hatch around Halloween, if they try to breed any other time the eggs are always sterile.
Egg gif: [link]
Whisp has hidden eggs in my fireplace to keep warm, and wishes to offer my friends a chance at having their own fire gremliin friend.

The following members have caught Whisp's attention by faving, or adding his image to their collections:

~Garchompdra
~earl-phantomhive
~Ryuu-black-dragon
~SylphLugia
~Red-Tomcat
~inusui
~ChibiMieze
~Cyndergirlonly
~98Aken
~MD33z
~spyro27

I have permission from Whisp to offer these members an egg. If your name is on the list, all you need to do to claim your egg is post with the following:

"I would love to have a fire gremlin egg of my own, and I promise that I will keep the egg warm. I will warm my egg in the fire * hours per day until it hatches."

* fill in with amount of hours (1 - 12). This may have an effect on your egg when it hatches

Edit 24/10/11:

Eggs claimed by:

~Garchompdra (10 hours)
~inusui (9 hours)
~Lycanic (8 hours)
~ChibiMieze (8 hours)
~Cyndergirlonly (8 hours)
~98Aken (7 hours)
~spyro27 (7 hours)
~SylphLugia (6 hours)

Sorry, no more eggs are available

Congratulations, all the eggs have hatched (refresh the image if you do not see your new hatchling)

Oh no! Something must have gone wrong, all the hatchlings look a pale grey like stone and have flown away from the fire to hide up in the dark recesses of the chimney, maybe we didn’t warm them properly ..... *checks with Whisp”, few! Whisp says this is normal. Hatchlings like to hide away while they gain their strength, being away from the fire means their bodies will cool, when their bodies cool it loses its bright colouring turning into this grey stone like colour. I guess we have found out where the gargoyle myth comes from, since they really do resemble a small gargoyle when they don’t move Lets wait and see what they will look like when they finally warm up by the fire

30/10/11 update:
Whohoo, the fire gremlins have all come to warm by the fire, you are now able to see your gremlins full colours. But what’s is this, there are a couple of gremlins a different colour than the others, they appear to be golden! The golden are rarer, but you can sometimes find the occasional one will hatch from a clutch of eggs, the ratio is normally 1/10 in any clutch of eggs, although it has been know that a gold can have a clutch with 2/10 golden.

Golden fire gremlin: [link]

Your fire gremlin are now mature, if you are quick you may be able to breed them before Halloween finishes and get your own batch of ten eggs to give out. You need to pair up if you wish to breed them (the are no male/female sexes to worry about), you must breed them within the next 48 hours to have eggs that will hatch, post here if you have found a pairing and then message me for instructions. Please note, you will be the ones giving out of the images for your eggs etc, if you are unable to do this then there will be no breeding.

Awww it seems he is inactive now. Could you start the breeding now and we will just talk about the dividing of eggs after the breeding since he agreed about the breeding.

Okidoki, you both have normal fire gremlins, so the same rules apply. Just decide between yourselves egg distribution

Great, we will have more fire gremlins this year

Okay, I consider they have breed, you both have the normal fire gremlins, so I will give the rules for them first:

Fire gremlins can only successfully breed once per year, and only around Halloween, so no more breedings for your two this year
A breeding will produce up to ten eggs, sometimes less if you wish, but never any more than ten.
You can decide between yourselves how you wish to split the eggs between you, but since you only have the normal fire gremlins only the one egg will be able to hatch into a gold, you will need a way to work out which egg. I chose to make everyone state a warming time so that I could use that to decide on who got the gold, you can invent your own way of choosing if you wish.
You then have a week to find them owners before they have to hatch, you can choose to keep eggs for yourself, this especially helps if you want to keep the gold
If no owner for an egg is found your gremlin would have looked after the egg itself, the hatchling will not have attached itself to an owner, therefore it would have flown the coup when it hatched.

The sprites for each stage for you to use are in my description post, all I ask is that you either link me to the page where you posted to give them away, or post here who received them if you decide to give them away privately. Please credit me for the sprites.

Oh ok. Hey Garchompdra may I get the golden one and you may take 6/10 ratio of the eggs.

All may not be lost though, if the new owners of the current fire gremlins are quick enough there may be some new eggs, we just have to wait and see if they are on their toes, and also willing to offer you one

Hooray! Is there any chance that my pet will die?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wayvern In reply to Lycanic [2011-10-24 10:43:52 +0000 UTC]

No, it won't die once it hatches. It's vulnerable time is when it is a defenceless egg, which is why it needs to be looked after during this stage, and given the heat it needs to develop, but not left in the fire all day which will kill it, which is why I said only 1-12 hours. Once it hatches it can look after itself, so you just need to enjoy its company

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Lycanic [2011-10-23 13:19:23 +0000 UTC]

May I adopt one? Please! XD

Wayvern In reply to Lycanic [2011-10-23 19:00:00 +0000 UTC]

Lycanic In reply to Wayvern [2011-10-24 00:19:38 +0000 UTC]

Then I will wait, does when I claim Ryuu's egg will be really mine? If yes I will claim it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wayvern In reply to Lycanic [2011-10-24 08:09:44 +0000 UTC]

It will be yours, but you need to claim it using the form provided, otherwise you have not warmed your egg in the fire, which means it will never hatch!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lycanic In reply to Wayvern [2011-10-24 08:12:49 +0000 UTC]

The less hours the faster it hatches?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wayvern In reply to Lycanic [2011-10-24 09:38:06 +0000 UTC]

You need to warm the egg for it to hatch, the length of time you select to warm it each day has another effect
