Azusa, Launching!Controversial opinion (for K-On! fans) follows:
Nakano Azusa is probably my favorite character from K-On! (well, perhaps tied with Tainaka Ritsu), but I still feel she's a bit out of place in the series. Because she's so similar to Akiyama Mio in many (but not all) ways, they end up stealing each others scenes. So, I got to thinking about other series she could be in, when I realized:
Azusa would make a great mecha pilot. She's hot-blooded, but not so much that it clouds her judgement. She's also sensible and hard-working, not to mention very talented. If we take that musical talent and turn it into piloting talent she'd become a top ace. So, that's what I decided I'd draw.
I gave her a nice Gundam sort of mecha, but a bit more feminine in form, to suit her better. I really like the zero or low-g scenes in Gundam, where the characters floated down to their suits, which inspired the scene here.

That's a pretty sharp image. As usual I know nothing of the source material but I like the work you put into the mecha as much as the girl. It has a very authentic pre-giant robot battle feel to it.

Thanks! I wanted to make sure that the mecha was drawn properly- as it'll be handy to know how to do it for any other mecha I draw.
As for the source material, K-On is a series about a bunch of High School girls who are in a rock band, but they mainly waste time instead of practicing. Azusa doesn't like that, and tries to make them practice as often as she can (but she frequently gets drawn into the goofing off).
I realised that with a bit of tweaking, like turning her musical skill into piloting skill, she'd make a very good mecha pilot. She blends hot-bloodedness with training and skill.

Wow, that's a really fitting unit for Azusa 
In my opinion Azusa fits her role as the kou-hai very well, and provides the opportunity to the
4 older girls to express their sempai-fuu (å
čžĐéĒĻ), or the lack of it.
She has some similarities to Mio, but it feels complementary to me.
Coincidentally, Azusa is my favorite, followed by Mio

I can see where you are coming from regarding Azusa, but for me, I felt it disrupted the chemistry of the four girls, and felt too additional.
