Description
I read on the newspaper about a house which had burned down last friday in my hometown of Kemi, Finland. The news coverage revealed enough details for me to easily find the location. It was kinda spooky out there and as I left, I noticed a POLICE LINE - DO NOT CROSS tape on the gate. Wonder if it was an arson!

This is a HDR out of six gloomy exposures taken in the garden.

Available as HDR workshop!

Hi there, you have done extremely well in not only capturing the the beauty within such a sad image, but the overwhelming sense of hopelessness and even neglect, the chaos and furious rage of fire all but spent, yet the wake or dawning of its devastation, left behind like a carcass eroding in the remoteness of some desolate place.
Thank you very much for opening my eyes to this rapture of hidden beauty, thank you, cheers, Mike.

Thank you for your kind words and support. This place is very close to where I live so maybe that's why there was perhaps more input into the making of an image than there usually is.

Hi there, sometimes people see so many different things in the exact same image, this kind of thing always fascinates me as to how strong the impact of a simple image can be, take care and thank you, cheers, Mike.

Thank you kindly dear brother.

Lot of noise reducing in order to achieve a 'clean' and crisp look that I like.

JonnyGoodboy In reply to wchild [2012-02-07 21:32:33 +0000 UTC]

Yup,had to do some myself today when I was editing your Workshop image too

wchild In reply to JonnyGoodboy [2012-02-07 21:44:25 +0000 UTC]

Often I use the sky from one of the individual exposures blended together with the tonemapped sky since the tonemapped sky is often too grainy and high noise reduction leads to color bleed and artifacts.

It turned out ok, I guess.

Such intense lighting and the clouds in the sky seem to be rushing away, making a very dramatic effect.

Thanks. I was lucky to have those clouds just there and then.

Photography often needs a bit of luck too.

I am totally amazed and impressed. i have to oogle this tutorial now to see how you did this. there are some cool abandoned places here in Wendover that would suit this kind of thing. Totally impressed by how ethereal this is and lovely despite the sorrow and the coldness of the snowy looking ground. Poor family though. Insurance does not replace family heirlooms and photos and such. It makes me mourn to think of it. They have my prayers, for all the good they might do...

wchild In reply to flamekaat [2012-01-26 09:46:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you kindly. What I didn't mention so far in comments is that the nearby streetlights served as ambient light source while shooting this house.

You should try shooting those abandoned locations. For sure they will produce wonderful imagery.
