Harsh but true- it is no accident that every pro-ai comment on this submission comes from someone who can't draw to save their life, and simply does not want to practice or put in the work to one day create something that doesn't look like shit. )

Okay, haven't made our own version yet but I thought I'd chime in on this. Everyone knows, or should know, by now the reasons why artists are so against AI "art."

When you're an artist, you become VERY familiar with the experience of having your work and passion devalued and belittled. No matter how many times you tell some non-artists that you got to where you are with years of practice and not some magical gift, they won't listen. Your work is simply a magic trick to them, and now they can finally get a piece of that for themselves, and the fact that it's dishonest and fake doesn't bother them.

What gets me the most is the way people conflate AI generated image software with a vague definition of "progress," comparing us to people who protested the invention of the car or the camera, when it's obvious that's not even close to the same thing.

Automation of tedious and necessary tasks in order to free a human being from meaningless labor (and provide them with time to do things like, gasp, artwork) is technological progress. Churning out frankensteined images made from stolen work is not.

Art thieves have always made the excuse of "but I can't draw like you, this is how I can be creative!!" whether they were stealing our work directly, copying or tracing from it, and now: using a program that shits out images, fed by the time, work, and talent of real artists. They have never cared when it comes to theft of our work, they have always used dishonesty to pass it off as their own, and now they're even blatantly taking credit (and money!) for something everyone knows is a ripoff that requires zero talent.

It was funny and amusing when people were making weird images as a joke, but then y'all came for our livelihoods. I'll die on this hill, fuck AI images and the people who create them. I see them everywhere and even though I block every account I see posting them, there's always more, like an infestation. Art sites should be speaking out on this, not profiting from it and exploiting their user base, and if we could leave deviantart in protest without losing a lot of our engagement we would.
